I wrote this article titled “Why I Stopped Using Coconut Oil,” and it shocked the world. You really have to read it to understand…Let’s just say that I stopped using coconut oil in my bathroom, NOT my kitchen. This has been the case since I found Beauty Counter.
I wanted a line of beauty products that helps me sustain my overall health in the long term and also makes my skin glow. I wanted products that perform well, are a pleasure to use, and most of all, safe.
Enter Beauty Counter in My Life
From the very first day, I did my new skin routine, I felt the difference. My skin was back to being soft without needing daily scrubbing. I was looking forward to doing my morning and night beauty routine. Mind you, I hadn’t looked forward to doing it in years!
I started researching about Beauty Counter as a business: that’s when I fell in love. Not only does Beauty Counter have safe products (more on that later), but the company itself is amazing. Beauty Counter is a B Corporation and founding member of Environmental Working Group (EWG) verified program.
Beauty Counter was founded by CEO Gregg Renfrew, a serial entrepreneur, after watching the Movie “An Inconvenient Truth”. She wanted to make the world of beauty safer.
Beauty Counter is Clean Beauty. Better Beauty. Safer Beauty. Beauty Counter doesn’t “green wash.” Beauty Counter is upfront: they tell us, “We are not organic or natural. We are safer.”
“We are about progress NOT perfection,” Gregg Renfrew says.
Beauty Counter is the Starting Point of Going Beyond The Food
Since I used the product and learned about the company, I was hooked. I’ve found a company that would be proud to talk about and that could help me convince women to transition to safer skin care. In my practice and my online community, one of my biggest struggles is convincing women to leave their commercial luxury brand and switch to food grade product… The gap was too wide.
Beauty Counter bridges the wide gap between commercial skin care and beauty products and 100% food grade organic skin care and beauty products.
Beauty Counter is the perfect place for women to begin their journey Beyond The Food to healthier and safer skin care.

The Dangers Within the Current Beauty Industry
Many studies like this one indicate that serious health issues (including, but not limited to, asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise, due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals, whether it’s in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home. For example Phthalates have been linked to endocrine disruption (hormonal imbalance) and are added to PVC plastic products to make them softer or more flexible, such as toys, car interiors, medical devices like blood IV bags and tubing, vinyl flooring, vinyl wallpaper, and vinyl shower curtains. Phthalates are also added to many cosmetics and personal care products including scented lotion, shampoo, perfume, aftershave, nail polish, and hair spray.
There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don’t have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry.
Over the past two decades, the European Union has banned more than 1,300 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more in such products. In Canada, Health Canada maintains a current list of close to 500 chemicals that are prohibited for use in cosmetic products and a current list of close to 80 chemicals that are restricted for use in cosmetic products. The United States has only partially banned 30 to date.
Beauty Counter Never List
Beauty Counter is different. They have banned the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals through The Never List—all while ensuring their products perform well and that they’re as indulgent as any luxury shampoo, lipstick, or oil in the market.
Here are my Beauty Counter Must-Haves
- Charcoal Cleansing Bar: by far my favorite discovery!
- Charcoal Cleaning Mask: This is like the one you see on your Facebook feed without all the toxic chemicals!
- Nourishing Cream Cleanser: One drop takes out make-up and mascara in a sweep.
- Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation: I hadn’t used foundation I years because it didn’t look natural on me… this one resolved all of this. I love it. Miraculous!
- The Body Collection: Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash and body lotion. The best investment I have ever made. It’s not just about our face, ladies! Skin is everywhere on our bodies!
- No. 3 Balancing Facial Oil: I use this one at every night… Once you start, you can’t stop!
I seriously love all of their products that I have tested thus far. The mascara is amazing. It never runs ( if you saw my stories on Instagram, you’d know!). I love the nourishing eye cream that I use every night before bed and the sheer lipstick that is ultra moisturizing, so I don’t have chapped lips for hours! I could go on, but I’ll stop and let you look around the online shop yourself here.
