My natural beauty routine, the product I use and a tour of my bathroom. A video tour while I complete my beauty routine!
It’s important to have options for natural skin care routine because your skin is just as important as your other organs. But first, did you know that your skin is actually an organ?
Your skin and you
Your skin is actually your body’s largest organ. Skin absorption is a route by which substances can enter the body through the skin. Along with inhalation, ingestion, and injection, dermal absorption is a route of exposure to toxic substances. That is why so many drugs can be administered through the use of transdermal patches.
We spend a lot of time thinking, planning and researching what is going inside of us related to food but do not take the time to consider what we put on our largest organ – our skin.
Two years after my health crisis and in the midst of my personal transformational journey, I explained to my community members one of my A-HA moments. I spent so much time cleaning up my diet, adopting a real food diet and making sure all the food that I ate had little to no chemicals in it. I understood that food on this planet in its most natural state was healthier and better. During this time, I was lathering my body with commercial beauty products filled with toxic chemicals. That’s when my journey for natural skin care began.
Traditional methods of skin care
If we take the same approach with our skin care as we do with our food and look back at what our ancestors did, we will find the answer. We have applied this principle to our nutrition – a high fat, low carb diet is exactly how our ancestors nourished themselves and exactly what is healing for us today. Butter is in and margarine is out. Years of low-fat diets and toxin-loaded foods made us sick and inflamed. Our skin is no different…toxic-loaded creams are out and we welcome back traditional fats such as tallow or coconut oil.
My Options for Natural Skin Care Routine
I tried a lot of the natural products available on the market. After years of trial and errors and lots of $$ I finally came across this new brand of safe beauty product called Beauty counter. I fell in love! You can read more about what happens and why here.
While searching for the perfect safe product I also spent years making my natural skin care products at home (and even stopped using shampoo for months)! This is what I know now – Simplicity is best BUT need to invest the time to make your own products!
When you feed your body real and nutrient-dense food, take care of your body messages and heal from the inside out, your skin will get healthier. Think of your skin as a reflection of what is going inside your body. Your skin is like a plant where the nourishment comes from the roots (similar to our body’s digestive system).
Not only do I teach a simple nutrition lifestyle, but also a simple skin care lifestyle.

Hair Care Natural Routine
Hair care: I’m currently using Beauty Counter shampoo and conditioner. Both products are ultra rich and use essential oil which makes my hair smell amazing. I have been using it for months now and I get asked all the time what products I used by my girlfriends and my hair stylist loves my hair!
I have also experience with the process of making my own shampoo and conditioner. I have made this recipe from my mentor in homemade skin care Wellness Mama. In lieu of conditioner, I have used coconut oil or this one recipe. The process of making my own hair care products was a great experience but time-consuming… 😳
Hair treatment: Once or twice a week, I will run some Argan Oil through my fingers and rub my hair with this super hydrating oil. Argan oil makes for the perfect leave-in conditioner that makes my hair easier to style while repairing those pesky split ends. Argan oil absorbs quickly and does not leave an oily residue.
Hair styling: This is my big secret… every time I share this one woman say “Really???”. Coconut oil is my go-to for styling. Coconut oil helps to tame frizzy and fly-away hair and protects against the heat of hair dryers, curlers, and flat irons while providing a healthy shine.
I also use this very powerful organic hairspray.
Options For Natural Beauty Routine
Body
Soap: I currently use Beauty Counter citrus body soap. Made with organic shea butter and infues with citrus oil this soap is super dense and last for at least 6 weeks!
I have also made my own soap for 3 years alongside my herbal medicine teacher. But I have also purchased it from a great friend of mine Enfleurage Organics and have also purchased this one brand of soap many times.
Body and Scrub: I’m careful with skin scrubbing … not too often. I scrub my face maybe twice a week with this product and my body maybe once a week with this product. I have created my own recipe for body scrub for this task combining strong antioxidant from organic coffee and the healing component of coconut oil & sugar. Get the easy 3 ingredient recipe right here.
I do not use any shaving cream but just simply use a razor.
Deodorant: Regular deodorant covers the smell by killing bacteria in your armpits (this causes the smell) and hides it with perfumes. Antiperspirants have the same anti-bacterial ingredients but also includes aluminum which temporarily blocks your sweat glands and stops them from producing sweat. The aluminum will build up in your body over time which can lead to heavy metal toxicity.
FATCO Stank Stop is by far my favorite natural deodorant… no joke. The anti-bacterial properties of Organic Coconut Oil, tallow, and shea butter along with the odor-neutralizing power of aluminum-free baking soda makes this product the most powerful stank stop I have used.
Another great option I use is a crystal deodorant stone. When applied to the skin it is entirely invisible and leaves no sticky or oily residue on the skin. Furthermore, it provides 24-hour protection and is fragrance-free.
Facial Beauty Care
Facial Skin Care Routine: Now this is where a lot of change has occurred in the last 12 months… If you haven’t read this post yet explaining why I made such a drastic change recently.
So you know by now that I have changed my product line up to Beauty Counter. I use the Rejuvenating line the aging prevention line specially created to help prevent and repair aging skin. Loaded with powerful antioxidants and vitamin C to help promote collagen production. I use this daily serum, this eye cream, and this night cream.
I also use this cleanser which is an all-purpose cleanser as it even removes eye make like a charm. Once a week I use the amazing charcoal mask and the brightening mask. I alternate each mask every 3 days.
Cosmetic: Very simple…I no longer wear color cosmetic daily. That and gel nails are things I quit the day I left the corporate world. When I do need to wear makeup (mainly shooting day) I use the 5-minute face (Flawless in 5) from Beauty Counter. Simple. Simple. Simple lol!
Dental Care
Toothpaste: This is probably the easiest place to start for making your own product at home. This is the recipe I started with 4 years ago and been using it since then. I also use this one.
Floss: Dessert tree tea tree oil is naturally waxed with beeswax and saturated with pure, naturally antiseptic Tea Tree Oil. No alcohol, artificial detergents, color or synthetic perfumes
Tooth whitening: Yes coffee leaves it’s mark..even organic coffee! My secret is activated charcoal. Using a older toothbrush brake open a capsule of activated charcoal on the toothbrush and brush your teeth for a few minutes. Let it sit for 15 minutes then clean your teeth using toothpaste. Works like a charm! Check out this video.
Options for Natural Skin Care Routine – Nighttime
Face cleanser: I a use this cleanser which is an all-purpose cleanser as it even removes eye make like a charm. Once a week I use the amazing charcoal mask and the brightening mask. I alternate each mask every 3 days.
Night cream: This the single most important element of my beauty routine is my anti-aging skin cream. this night cream is my favorite. The night I make a mask I will apply this oil to my face first and then apply my night cream.
Tallow: I will also apply pure tallow from Fatworks a couple time a month to my heels and feet and place a pair of wool socks over my greased feet and go to bed. By the time I wake up I have the smoothest heels ever!
Hand and feet cream: Last but not least right before turning the light I will rub my hand with this moisturizing hand cream although I have very soft hands all the time although I cook and wash dishes like a mad woman.
These are my options for a natural beauty routine, day in and day out. It’s start with nutrition and healing food and next is what I put on my skin. It starts with food!
