You put food in your mouth but put food on your skin? Does a body scrub made from food ingredients sound interesting? That was one of my free and private community women member’s response when I first shared this recipe.
Did you know that our skin is considered an organ?
Did you know that your skin is actually the biggest organ of your entire body?
Most of us have heard the saying “you are what you eat” because every cell in our body is made from the raw material which we eat.
So what about what you put on your skin? As the saying goes – are we also what we put on our skin?
If you answered yes to this question, what would be your next action? Running to your bathroom to see what is actually in your beauty products? That was my reaction about four years ago when I realized all of the above.
Skin facts
Skin covers about 18 square feet of the human body. It is composed of two main layers: the epidermis (outer) and the dermis (inner). The cells in the epidermis are continually replaced with cells produced in its bottom layer. This process slows as we age. Exfoliating dead skin cells help speed up the process thereby promoting youthful skin.
So do you want to be able to exfoliate your skin without lathering it with toxic chemicals? If so, my DIY Coffee Body Scrub will leave your skin feeling super soft, supple, and smelling amazing.
Body scrub health benefits
My body scrub is made from just 4 natural ingredients: ground coffee, coconut oil, coconut sugar, and cinnamon (optional). Try to buy everything organic, if possible.
Coffee is rich in antioxidants which makes it an awesome anti-inflammatory ingredient. It contains caffeine which draws out excess moisture from your skin causing it to look and feel smoother and firmer. In this scrub, coffee acts as a mild exfoliant removing dead skin cells and exposing fresh, soft skin.
Coconut oil is one of my favorite natural beauty ingredients. It’s incredibly moisturizing and filled with vitamins and minerals which also locks securely into your skin.
Coconut sugar acts as the second exfoliant in this scrub.
Cinnamon is an anti-microbial agent. It helps to clear your skin of any bacteria. It also brings blood to the surface of the skin helping to smooth out any lines that may be present.
