Why is it easier to accept other people’s larger b Why is it easier to accept other people’s larger bodies but not your own?In this new episode of the -It’s Beyond The Food podcast episode 444 we unpack this client circumstance.➡️ Comment PODCAST and I’ll send you the link to listen. There’s one answer that explains why this resistance exists: the self-objectification theory (PMID: 29172061)Self-objectification happens when someone begins viewing themselves as an object rather than a person. For women, this is learned through socialization and cultural practices like gazing, comments, media, harassment, and the constant messaging that our worth is tied to appearance. Here’s how self-objectification plays out:
Socialization leads women to internalize the belief that their body is who they are. That belief triggers self-surveillance—body checking, comparing, and judging against beauty standards.Over time, this leads to psychological consequences like chronic self-criticism, body shame, and disconnection from the body.Eventually, this increases mental health risks such as disordered eating, depression, and anxiety. The negative body image resulting from self-objectification drives behavioral changes aimed at conforming to perceived ideals: restrictive eating, over-investing in appearance, and compulsive exercise, among others. This is why so many women can accept others’ fatness, but not their own.Their sense of self has been shaped by a culture that objectifies them. The solution: body neutrality where we help client appreciate their body functionality.Stephanie

The line between restriction and gentle nutrition The line between restriction and gentle nutrition isn’t drawn by the food—it’s drawn by the intention behind it…The question submitted for me to answer was: How do I draw the line between gentle nutrition and restrictive eating? Is that meal plan gentle nutrition—or just restriction in disguise? Here’s how you can tell:
👉 Control = restriction
👉 Connection = gentle nutritionYour client’s food choices might look healthy, but if they come from fear, guilt, or a need to control…
It’s not gentle. It’s not safe. It’s not supportive. In Episode 1 of the Coach Corner Series of the It’s Beyond The Food podcast series, I teach you:

The thin body ideal that women are chasing isn’t a The thin body ideal that women are chasing isn’t about health.
It’s about control. It keeps women in a state of self-doubt,compliant, quiet, and chasing approval. It was never about well-being.
It was about obedience.Women’s health coaching must go beyond food and body.
It must be political. We don’t need another plan.
We need a revolution.And I’m here for it.Stephanie#dietculturedropout #antidietrevolution #dietculture #nondietdietitian #weightinclusive
