If self-compassion feels awkward and you feel resi If self-compassion feels awkward and you feel resistant to it…read on.After years of “pushing through” and surviving diet culture most of my clients experience resistance to embodying self-compassion at first.Here’s the thing—resisting self-compassion is actually healthy.It’s your nervous system trying to protect you from what feels unsafe.The truth? Self-compassion is a habit—just like any other. At first it feels weird, but the more you practice it, the safer it feels.I coach my clients to treat self-compassion like intuitive eating—start small, expose yourself little by little, and let it grow.Here’s a self-coaching script I shared with my clients to help take the “sulky” feeling out of self-compassion:🗣️It makes total sense that self-compassion feels uncomfortable right now because, for most of my life, I’ve survived by ‘pushing through.’So, yeah, it’s normal that I feel awkward.But I’m ready to change this survival behavior because it no longer serves my well-being.
