I made a decision yesterday afternoon…I’m pausin I made a decision yesterday afternoon…I’m pausing the launch of the Non-Diet Coaching Certification.As a community of ethical professionals who want to live in ways that serve not only ourselves, but the world, and who are grounded in social justice values, we are not well right now.What’s happening in the world is destabilizing.
In the U.S., we’re witnessing the harm caused by ICE enforcement practices in Minnesota.
In Canada, we’re grieving the police shooting of two Indigenous people in Atlantic Canada earlier this week.I noticed myself doing what many of us do in moments like this.
Doom scrolling.
Looping political analysis.
Watching too much news, even though I know better.Awareness without action creates overwhelm.
Action without grounding leads to burnout.Then an article by @kelly.diels  landed in my inbox yesterday am. She posed a question that stopped me in my tracks:What action actually contributes to the world I’m trying to build?For me, the answer is teaching and coaching.
Those actions ground me in my values.
They anchor me in my purpose.
They allow me to contribute to a world where women have access to health care that is just, supportive, and rooted in well-being.So instead of launching, I’m teaching.Health Coaching, Activism, and Social Justice

#2016 was a year of pivots and contrasts.Closed #2016 was a year of pivots and contrasts.Closed my private practice.
Opened my online business.Sold my house.
Bought a condo.Let go of the big car.
Drove the tiniest one I could find.Stopped dieting.
Became focused on “health.”I couldn’t find a full-body photo from that year.My body still took up too much space in my mind.
And in my life.I was practicing a non-diet approach.
I had not healed my body image.My personal worth and professional confidence were still tied to my body and my health status.Late in 2016, I found the work of my mentor.
A fat woman who taught me about feminism and diet culture.
That changed everything.2016 was the setup
But very much the plot-twist era

After 10 years of coaching over a thousand women p After 10 years of coaching over a thousand women post-diet culture here’s 3 lessons I’ve learned about goal setting…

👉You can’t hate yourself into sustainable behavior change.Over the years, I’ve seen the same patterns appear again and again — in clients and in health professionals alike.

Here are the three lessons that changed how I coach goals:1️⃣ Behavior change doesn’t start with better goals.
It starts with a safer relationship to self.2️⃣ Consistency comes after trust, not before.
When clients feel safe to try, pause, fail, and try again, behavior change lasts.3️⃣ The goal is never the point.
It’s the container for safety, growth, and identity-building.Most coaches were taught how to set goals.

SMART goals sound professional but for your women SMART goals sound professional but for your women client post diet & wellness culture they often backfire.Specific. Measurable. Achievable. Relevant. Time-bound.

Great on paper — until a client’s self-worth is tied to outcomes.

Then even “achievable” goals can feel unsafe.The issue isn’t that clients don’t know how to set goals.

The issue is that many goals are dirty goals.🧠 Dirty goals make your worth conditional.
✨ Clean goals build safety and self-trust.When we set clean goals, we:
🌱 Focus on growth, not control
💬 Teach self-discovery, not self-judgment
🤝 Create safety, not pressureThe coaching skill isn’t writing “better” goals —
it’s helping clients clean the goal.

Because when you clean the goal,
you remove the threat —
