Coaching body fantasies is an important part of going beyond the food with your clients.
A body fantasy is the illusion your client has that their life will be perfect when they get this other body. Body fantasies are stories that your client plays in their mind, both consciously and unconsciously.
The truth is, body fantasies are what motivate your clients to go through the suffering of shrinking their bodies.
Part of your role as a coach is to identify these fantasies and then help your client change their relationship to them.
The other part about body fantasies is that they distract your client. In fact, they serve as a means of distracting your client from real problems in their life.
Helping your client identify these fantasies is very important. When these fantasies are surfaced, part of your coaching is to help your client get the fantasies they were holding back on.
I believe that the reason why so many non-diet coaches struggle with body image coaching is because they don’t know how to coach clients beyond the scope of food.

COACHING BODY FANTASIES: THE FRAMEWORK
Step 1: Examining. Examine how your client is creating the current relationship they have to their body. What are their emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and feelings about their body?
Step 2: Dis-identify. Tear down your client’s story that creates their current reality with their body. Change the inner narrative.
Step 3: Autonomy. We need to help our client reconnect to their inner power to create the life that they want. Bring forward the fantasies that they have in their life that were put on the back burner until they had their “ideal body”.
Step 4: Liberation. This is where you help your client actively pursue one fantasy at a time.
Step 5: Redefine. Most of our clients that go through a life coaching process have to redefine their life goals because the fantasies they were putting on the back burner are now coming forward.
