Say what? Yep, you heard me. Many women are afraid of fat because “fat makes you fat,” right? Or does it?
The answer is NO!!! Fat doesn’t make you fat. I get it because if just like me you were born any time before the 90’s you were trained to fear fat. Low fat everything was the diet rule… right sister?
So, let’s all stop fat shaming please! Fat is just another macronutrient, just like protein or carbohydrate. Fat is needed by our body to function. Let’s dive in!
How Do You Choose Which Fats To Eat?
Ok, so what qualifies as a good quality fat Stephanie? Well, I’m glad you asked.
Omega 3 fatty acids are essential to the body and decrease inflammation. You find these in fish, such as salmon, and should be included frequently in your diet.
But let me introduce you to a type of fat you may not have heard of before. Meet MCT oil or medium-chain triglyceride oil. Medium-chain triglycerides are a type of saturated fatty acid. When most people hear “saturated fat” they think of all of the bad press fat has received. But these MCTs actually have tons of health benefits including boosting energy and improved cognitive function.
MCT Oil vs. Brain Octane
Coconut oil is a great source of medium-chain triglycerides, but there are other options as well. Coconut oil only contains approximately 65% MCTs. Thankfully there are a few wonderful products out there that are more concentrated, like Brain Octane oil. Products like these offer more bang for your buck when adding them to things like the fatty shake or even your coffee!
Brain Octane is one of those products. Still a medium-chain triglyceride oil, just a high concentration of it, Brain Octane actually is caprylic acid. Coconut oil, palm oil and butter also contain caprylic acid, just in much smaller amounts. Because of the high concentration of caprylic acid in this oil (100%) the body is able to metabolize it very quickly. It becomes instant energy to be used immediately by the body and brain.
Also, along with a massive energy boost, this oil provides some other awesome health benefits such as lowering hypertension, increasing digestive health and even balancing out yeast issues in the gut. Along with zero smell and taste, it is the perfect oil to add to recipes like this high fat smoothie recipe.
