324-How You Do One Thing Is How You Do Everything in Your Life

How you do one thing is how you do everything. This means how you relate to food is how you relate to life. In fact, how you think about your body is likely how you think about money and other areas of your life too.

Understanding this coaching concept will help you create the freedom and ease you want in your life after years of dieting.

HOW YOU DO ONE THING IS HOW YOU DO EVERYTHING

How you relate to food is how you relate to life. Meaning, how you think about and connect to food directly influences how you think about and connect to life.

For example, when you feel out of control with food, your thoughts sound like, “I can’t control myself around food.”

Then, you think, “I shouldn’t trust myself with food.”

Which eventually solidifies into the belief, “I can’t trust myself.”

Do you see it now? How you relate to food is how you relate to life; how you do one thing is how you do everything.

THE 3 STEPS TO COACH YOURSELF INTO A NEW BELIEF

Step 1: Become aware of the self-belief you currently have. Then, reflect on how the glasses analogy (explained in Episode 324) is reflected in your relationship with food.

Step 2: Establish consent with yourself. Are you willing to do the work that is required to change the “glasses” you wear? You have to intentionally decide that you will coach yourself through this because our human brains do not love change.

Step 3: Gradually take off the “glasses” to rebuild a new belief. Slowly peel back the belief you’re changing (i.e. “I don’t trust myself”) to rebuild a NEW belief. This new belief will have a positive impact on your relationship to food AND all other areas of your life.

Tip: start with food. Most women reading this are here because they stopped dieting, but that doesn’t mean they’re an intuitive eater yet. In fact, you may be in an intense rebellion with food right now.

Food was likely the place where you stopped trusting yourself in the first place. Start with building back trust around food. Eventually, you will see your new beliefs ripple into other areas of your life, too.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode:

  • How your beliefs about food impact all other areas of your life
  • How the cognitive bias system is holding you back from changing how you relate to food and life
  • The 3 steps you can take now to start trusting yourself again
  • Why you should start with changing your relationship to food before anything else

323-Making Quality Decisions

323-Making Quality Decisions

-Making Quality Decisions

Making quality decisions is the key to creating your better, bigger, bolder life – the undieted life that YOU want. In fact, this is exactly what led me to the point of no longer having “bad body image days”.

And I know with certainty, my sister, that you can create your undieted life too.

INDECISION IS STOPPING YOU FROM MAKING QUALITY DECISIONS

Being indecisive is making the decision to not make a decision. It is making the decision to indulge in confusion and uncertainty and to stay there.

By default, the human brain wants to stay where it is. In fact, your brain does NOT want to change the current reality that you are in.

For example, your brain does not want to think thoughts like “my body is neutral” or “I don’t care about my body”. This is because these thoughts signal danger to your brain based on your current reality. And your brain does not want to change this reality.

Unless you take control of your brain and your thinking, you will stay in the current reality that you are in.

The truth is, changing your reality requires effort. Precisely, the effort to make quality decisions that shape the reality you desire. For example, no longer having bad body image days.

HOW TO MAKE QUALITY DECISIONS FOR YOUR FUTURE SELF

The reason why we flip-flop between decisions is that we haven’t made the decision based on who we want to become.

Often, the reason why you are making decisions is not about you. In fact, it’s either about other people, or it’s about who you are today or were in the past.

That’s a problem because you’ll never create that future version of yourself if you make decisions based on your current reality.

In order to make decisions for your future self, you need to develop the skill set to trust yourself more. One of the best ways to do this for women like us is through mastering intuitive eating.

This is exactly what I teach my clients inside of Undiet Your Life so that they can live their better, bigger, boldest life.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode:

  • How to stop having bad body image days
  • What happens when you choose not to make a decision
  • Why your brain doesn’t want to change your current reality & what to do about it
  • How to make quality decisions for your future self

Living the Undieted Life

Living the undieted life is the outcome of the Undieting Your Life Coaching Process. Undieting your life allows you to live the life you were meant to live.

After working on your relationship with food and body image, you might be wondering what’s next. Perhaps, you feel lost because food and body image are no longer the “problem” to be solved in your life. If you feel lost after working on food and body image, it might be because you now see endless possibilities.

LIVING THE UNDIETED LIFE: NEW POSSIBILITIES

Not too long ago, dieting consumed your life and your thoughts were mostly about food and body image. Since working on these thoughts, you now have the brain space to think about MORE in life.

I am so proud of you for getting to where you are now. And, it’s okay if you don’t know what to do with all the possibilities in front of you.

What you’re experiencing now, post-food and body image work, is what I call the undieted life.

Living the undieted life means living a free, unrestrained life in pursuit of your desires.

The undieted life is..

  • When food is freedom;
  • Food is no longer drama;
  • Consistently eating food that makes you feel good WITHOUT trying;
  • When being at peace in your life becomes the norm;
  • Shifting your focus from authority over food and your body to authority over your life.

Living the undieted life gets to be whatever you want it to be because it is rooted in your freedom.

There is a sh*tload of opportunity waiting for you on the other side of undieting your life. I know this because I am living and sharing this with you right now.

Tune into today’s episode to learn how YOU can undiet your life too.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode:

  • What happens when food and body image are no longer the “problem”
  • What it means to truly live the undieted life

321-The Illusion of Eating Better (versus confident eating)

321-The Illusion of Eating Better (versus confident eating)

The illusion of eating better

Why we fantasize about eating better is because somewhere inside of us we think that there is a ‘better’. We think that this better way of eating will give us relief from the low-grade anxiety we feel about our current eating patterns.

We fantasize about it because it gives us a dopamine boost just like any other fantasies – like the fantasy of the thin ideal was going to make us happy, confident and healthy we hope that when we eat better we will feel.

Unfortunately, the thin ideal was not the only fantasy diet culture was leading to disempowerment with…here comes the fantasy of eating better. Yet again reinforcing that how we are and what we do naturally is not good enough.

The illusion of eating better.

We confuse eating healthier with better because better must mean healthier and we think there’s a healthier way of eating than another.

We mistakenly think that what we do naturally MUST not be “better” because we falsely believe we always need “fixing”.

Here’s the truth: there is no healthier way of eating than others. There are as many eating as there are humans and none is better than others.

There’s YOUR way of eating that is best for you. Unfortunately, there’s no guide for the way of eating for YOU or at least not a guide in the way you think of a guide: no paper, no pdf…

The way to eat what is best for you is Self-trust.

Self-trust is the antidote to the illusion of eating better.

Self-trust is a woman’s SUPERPOWER because it’s the one thing that scares the living shit of oppressive systems aiming at disempowering us… when we trust ourselves we are unstoppable.

When are in a state of self-trust

  • we have clarity- test to know what, when and how to eat BUT must have more important clarity to know what we want for our life and what we don’t want.
  • what is right for the US not to confirm what is right for others.
  • we express ourselves freely
  • we know how to care for ourselves; physical, mental, and emotional
  • we chase our dreams

Let’s see what it takes to be in a state of self-trust.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode:

  • Why we fantasize about eating better
  • The solution to the illusion of eating better
  • How we do one thing is how we do everything
  • The role of self-trust in gentle nutrition

320-Unpacking Gentle Nutrition

320-Unpacking Gentle Nutrition

Unpacking Gentle Nutrition

At some point, I’ll just eat better right?

That is often the question we ask ourselves as we go through intuitive eating. We think that if we do the intuitive eating work diligently it will lead us to eating better.

What is eating better?

To a brain that has been affected by diet culture and had to adapt to survive years of food restriction, eating better most often means “eating healthier”.

Intuitive eating has brought us to the place where we know we shouldn’t be restricting food and should have pleasure with food but unknowingly we still are holding on to beliefs that lead us to think that the end result of the intuitive eating process has to be healthy eating.

But is the end product of intuitive eating healthy eating?

No, it is not. Gentle Nutrition is the end product of an intuitive eating process. Here is the definition of gentle nutrition as per Evelyn Tribole in the book intuitive eating.

“Make food choices that honor your health and taste buds while making you feel well. Remember that you do not have to eat perfectly to be healthy. You will not suddenly get a nutrient deficiency or gain weight from one snack, one meal, or one day of eating. It’s what you eat consistently over time that matters – progress not perfection is what counts.” – Evelyn Tribole.

Gentle nutrition is the ultimate place where we redefine health, nutrition, and trust for our bodies.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode on gentle nutrition:

  • What is gentle nutrition
  • Gentle Nutrition: What it’s not
  • The role of gentle nutrition in health
  • Healthism: Healthy behavior gone wrong

319-The Origin of Diet Culture

319-The Origin of Diet Culture

The Origin of Diet Culture

The origin of diet culture is shady and creepy… and likely not what you think it is. Tune in to this week’s podcast where I share with you how diet culture was born.

Surprisingly, the cultural belief system about women managing their size only goes back about a hundred years or so and came out of a social narrative that had nothing to do with health or medicine.

The conversation about your weight which may feel like a scientific dictum inside of a doctor’s visit actually has very little to do with health and a heck of a lot more to do with social oppression.

This episode of our podcast is actually an extract from an interview I did on a colleague’s podcast The Eat Influencer Podcast by Maggie Landes MD. We are going to explore the origins of diet culture and the somewhat sinister beginnings of the modern weight loss industry.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode:

  • The origin of diet culture
  • When and how the weight loss industry was born
  • The historical link between feminism and diet culture

Can you succeed in the pursuit of your goals without enduring failure too?

Nope. Your failure capacity will determine your ability to achieve your desired level of success faster.

Yes, I’m calling you out as a person, who has been socialized as a woman, to do some mindset work. In fact, this is why you focus on your thoughts and beliefs, rather than tactics, to achieve your goals.

It’s actually the belief that failure is “bad” (not the “wrong” sales tactics) that holds you back from achieving the success you desire… ready to practice failing?

317-5 Steps to Change Your Exercise Mindset with Jolyn Martin

5 Steps to change your exercise mindset

Your exercise mindset is key when it comes to repairing your relationship with your body and movement.

If you have a history of dieting, you likely have a complicated exercise mindset. Because of this, you may need to take a break from movement entirely before exploring it from a non-diet approach. However, changing your exercise mindset will ultimately help you break free from the diet culture way of thinking about exercise.

Placing weight loss on the back burner is the first step to separate movement from diet culture. This step can be scary, but it must not be skipped over. If you want to escape the trap of diet culture and experience freedom in movement, you need to put the goal of weight loss aside.

This doesn’t mean that you won’t desire weight loss again – you will. However, it will allow you to explore movement in a different way. You will begin to approach movement from a place of self-care, rather than fear. And you will gain body awareness and the ability to prioritize movement you enjoy.

5 steps to change your exercise mindset

Following the 5 steps to change your exercise mindset will allow you to reconnect to your body. You will also be empowered to make exercise goals from a place of self-care, rather than punishment.

In today’s episode, our guest Jolyn Martin will teach you the 5 steps you need to take to change your exercise mindset.

Jolyn Martin is a certified personal trainer & virtual group fitness instructor for women. She is a mom of 2 and the founder of Jolyn Martin Fitness. Shortly after starting her career in the fitness industry, she started to notice the dangerous and toxic effects of chasing thinness and finding self-worth in body image. After dismantling her own beliefs, Jolyn has now made it her life mission to help women make peace with their bodies through empowering movement, body awareness and mindset coaching so that they can find the motivation within.

She is also the host of The Non-Diet Mom Show podcast and runs a signature 12 – week coaching program specifically for Moms called The Nourished Moms, Healthy Kids Program for moms who want to raise body-confident kids who have a healthy relationship with food.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode on the 5 steps to change your exercise mindset:

  • Why putting weight loss on the back burner can help you explore exercise in a different way
  • How to reconnect to your body through movement
  • Why love is more effective than fear when it comes to motivation
  • How reflecting on your childhood can help you re-discover movement you enjoy

316-Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Bonus Day

Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Bonus Day

Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Bonus Day

On Day 4 of the masterclass, learn how to reshape your mind to think confident thoughts and let go of default thinking.

In this Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass BONUS Q&A session we unpacked some of the most common questions we get asked in Undiet Your Life. Here’s what came up…

Frequently asked questions: From women who want to stop stressing about their weight and create confidence

How do I go out in public without being afraid of running into someone who knew me when I was thinner?

What if people think I’m lazy when they see I’ve gained weight?

How do I catch the thoughts that are so subconscious that I’m not even aware of them?

How long does it take to change my thoughts after dieting my whole life?

Who am I if I’m not struggling with my weight?

How long does it take to rewire my brain so that I don’t slip into default thinking?

How do I not get emotional when I am sticking up for myself?

If you have these questions too, you are not alone, sister. Recognize that these thoughts and questions are coming from the diet brain. And remember that you have the power to rewire your brain to think confident thoughts instead.

Fear of Failure: How to stop stressing about your weight and create confidence instead

Underlying many of these questions is also a fear of failure. However, I invite you to consider that your current perspective of failure is likely rooted in diet culture.

Diet culture will tell you that anything short of “perfect” is a failure. But notice how diet culture always puts the blame on you, instead of questioning the process (i.e., the diet) …

In order to stop stressing about your weight and blaming yourself for “failing”, you’ll need to learn how to manage your mind. This includes questioning the process you have followed and repeated up until this point.

Learning to manage your mind is the most powerful thing you can do to create the unshakeable confidence you desire.

This is exactly what we’re doing in the confidence bootcamp. Join us here.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode:

  • How to stop avoiding people out of fear that they’ll judge your weight
  • What you can do to catch the subconscious thoughts that are getting in the way of confidence
  • How long it takes to rewire your brain so that you don’t slip into default thinking

315-Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Day 3

315-Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Day 3

Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Day 3

In Day 3 of the masterclass, learn how to stop stressing about your weight by managing other people’s thoughts and opinions about you.

The number one reason why women stop creating confidence is because they care more about others’ opinions than their own.

When your own opinion of yourself is shitty, it’s hard to stop stressing about your weight on your own. It makes total sense that you will seek others’ opinions in hopes that they’ll help you feel better.

Remember that as women we have been socialized to seek validation externally, so it’s normal to worry about others’ opinions. But here’s the truth: the idea that your own opinion of yourself doesn’t matter is a fallacy.

In order to stop stressing about your weight AND what others think about your weight, you’ll need to manage your mind.

Managing your mind includes recognizing that you can only control your own thoughts. This means that you also need to take responsibility for your emotions that result from your thoughts (not others’ thoughts).

When you learn how to manage your mind, you then have the power to create your own confidence. This is exactly what we’re doing in the confidence bootcamp.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode on Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Day 3:

  • The #1 reason why women stop creating confidence
  • The only way other people’s opinions can affect you
  • 5 steps to stop letting other’s thoughts and opinions affect you
  • How the Confidence Bootcamp will help you

314-Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Day 2

314-Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Day 2

Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Day 2

On Day 2 of the masterclass, learn how to stop stressing about your weight by learning how to create confidence.

Creating confidence is as easy as thinking confident thoughts.

Now as soon as your brain heard that, it started to resist. Moreover, your brain will tell you that it can’t be that simple, but I’m telling you it is!

You are going to have to sell your brain on this new perspective to stop stressing about your weight. The path to thinking shitty thoughts about your weight and body is well established. That is to say, carving out a new path to confident thoughts is going to be met with resistance.

The key to moving through this resistance is reclaiming authority over your life.

Stop Stressing About Your Weight with Self-Authorization

Listen, as women we have been socialized to not be in authority over our own life. We are socialized to be the polite, modest, quiet, agreeable “good girl”. We’ve been taught to conform at all costs and we have found safety in this conformity.

We’ve learned how to hustle our way into body compliance which gives us a false sense of confidence when we’re “successful”. But what you felt wasn’t true confidence. Confidence is never shaken by the size of your body. What you felt was safety (i.e., “I’m compliant, now I won’t be judged”).

Confidence is created by how you think about yourself, including your body and weight in the solace of your own mind.

If you want to stop stressing about your weight and body, you have to change how you think about yourself. This is how you create unshakeable confidence that doesn’t change with your body size.

You need to give yourself permission to think differently about your body and weight… this is called self-authorization. I teach you the process of self-authorization on Day 2 of the Masterclass.

What you’ll learn listening to this episode:

  • How to use your thoughts to create confidence about your body
  • Why you need to sell your brain on this new confident perspective
  • The difference between safety in body compliance versus unshakeable body confidence
  • How to self-authorize new thoughts about your body and weight

313-Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Day 1

Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Day 1

In Day 1 of the masterclass, learn how to stop stressing about your weight and instead feel confident. Create unshakable confidence by reshaping your mind, not your body.

Creating unshakeable confidence is simpler than you think – really, there are only 3 things you need to do.

First, learn how to process the emotions you currently feel. Then, authorize yourself to think differently about your body. And finally, coach yourself into thinking these new thoughts.

The thoughts you have about your weight and body are creating feelings of stress, shame, and anxiety. With this knowledge, you have the choice to this as a limitation or a possibility.

Here’s the truth: if you can create stress, shame, and anxiety, then you can also create confidence. Decide now – will you choose to see the possibility, or will you choose to stay stuck?

The weight peace protocol

In order to stop stressing about your weight and create unshakeable confidence, you need to follow the weight peace protocol.

First, you need to learn how to process your emotions about weight and your body. You can’t begin to create confidence without first learning how to process the shame and stress feel about your body. In the weight peace protocol, we teach you exactly how to ride this wave.

The most effective thing you can do after riding the wave is to do a brain dump. This is easy – the goal is to get out all of the thoughts that you have about your weight and body.

Finally, you need to acknowledge that it’s not your fault for thinking this way. You can neutralize these thoughts by identifying where they came from in the first place. You’ll notice these thoughts came from past experiences, exposure to diet culture and fat-shaming, family and past conditioning, and socialization.

Now you know that feeling stressed about your weight starts with your thoughts… so why can’t you think new thoughts to create confidence?

What you’ll learn listening to this episode on Stop Stressing About Your Weight Masterclass Day 1:

  • The 3 things you need to do to stop stressing about your weight and instead feel confident
  • How to create unshakeable confidence in yourself
  • How to use the Weight Peace Protocol
  • The way you’ve been socialized to think about your body is not your fault
