In my Healing Food Digital Book, I also refer to a few recipes with this very special nutrient which is gut healing, skin beautifying and joint soothing. Our ancestors utilized sustainable whole animal nutrition. Over the past century, modern food processing has removed natural and healthy protein from our diets. It is vital for our body because it is the basic building block of skin, hair, nails, bones and joints.
Collagen for Skin Beauty
Collagen is an important building block for the skin [1]. It makes up to 30% of the protein of the living body and 70% of the protein that makes up skin. It ensures the cohesion, elasticity and regeneration of skin.
Maintaining the right amount of collagen is very important and is a key nutrient for beautiful skin. It is primarily composed of the amino acids glycine, proline, alanine and hydroxyproline. These amino acids appear to be needed to maintain the amount of healthy levels of collagen and thus reduce the signs of aging skin.
So for beautiful skin, give my low carb gummies recipe a try!
Collagen for Joint Health
Cartilage consists of a single cell type called chondrocytes which are embedded in the extra-cellular matrix made up of two major components types of collagen. Orchestrated synthesis and turnover ensures and maintains the biochemical characteristics of the cartilage.
Also during osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis, this regulation is disrupted by inflammation. Enzymes degrade our collagen which results in the loss of cartilage and function.
In addition, the beneficial effects of collagen peptides have been reported in numerous research findings. A clinical study performed on various populations for a period ranging from 30 to 90 days, demonstrated a positive effect on knee joint comfort with a dose of 10g of it per day. The effect was even more pronounced in patients suffering more severe symptoms.
Collagen for Gut Health
The secret behind the power of bone broth is collagen which is the main support for proteins that gives bone, cartilage and tendons strength. Once cooked, it becomes “gelatin.” Supplementing it with collagen or collagen peptide is important because it can help boost your gastric juices and aid is restoring the integrity and health of your mucosal lining.
Next, it also contains the amino acids proline and glycine which are essential building blocks to repair damaged intestinal lining also known as leaky gut. After all, your gut lining is a similar tissue as your skin and your gut tissue benefits as much as from it as wrinkles. If you wish to discover more about leaky gut and ways of healing a gut issue, you may want to refer to my online seminar Introduction to the GAPS diet.
