Collagen in This Healthy Homemade Gummies Recipe
Collagen is a very important nutrient. It is an essential building block of skin, hair, nails, bones and joints. You actually have more collagen in your body than any other type of protein. Due to the changes in our food sources, collagen is hard to come by these days. A lack of this nutrient can cause a variety of health issues from wrinkles to osteoarthritis.
Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and collagen provides soothing properties that aid your digestion. Collagen supports the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and helps repair stomach lining. It also can heal your digestive tract to improve digestion and help heal intestinal permeability.
Collagen vs. Gelatin
Gelatin and collagen both have the same amino acids, but gelatin will only dissolve in hot water and causes liquids to gel. Collagen (in hydrolysate form) will dissolve in both cold and hot water. Making it the perfect choice for gummy snacks.
The best way to get your collagen, is to eat a good whole foods diet including lean protein, essential fats and loads of fresh produce.
