Last episode, I talked about using discipline towards yourself as a motivator. Do you do the same thing? Where did we learn this concept? That harsh discipline is the best behavioral change method… likely how we were raised, right? Is that the way you were taught to be a good girl?

Besides that, we keep shaming ourselves, beating ourselves up or punishing ourselves for “bad” behaviors in the hopes that it will finally work. If this is something you know for a fact that you do, you’ve got to listen to this episode.

More importantly, learn the lesson and implement the changes you feel you need to do. Go ahead and click here.

I Just Need to Be Tougher on Myself… An Easier Way!

Are you using discipline towards yourself as a motivator? Or at least hoping that it will motivate you?

So many of us have been using that motivational “stick” for years… maybe even decades… without really being successful. Moreover, we keep trying and saying to ourselves: If I can be tougher on myself, it would work…” Or “I’m just too soft… if only I could be tougher”… We keep shaming ourselves, beating ourselves up or punishing ourselves for “bad” behaviors in the hopes that it will finally work.

Where did we learn this concept? That harsh discipline is the best behavioral change method… likely how we were raised, right? Is that the way you were taught to be a good girl?

Let’s be real honest here… How’s that “being tough” on yourself working for ya? Not so good, right… so, what can we do instead?

In this episode I discuss

  • What self-loathing and self-criticism really do to you
  • Where the belief  “I need to be tougher on myself” come from
  • How your parents or caregivers impact the way you deal with your own behavior changes
  • What science says about the behavior of self-loathing and self-criticism
  • The real effective methods in behavioral change that you should be adopting

Back Pain: Game-Changing Approach

Chances are you are one of the 31 million Americans experience low back pain at any given time. Low back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide, according to the Global Burden of Disease 2010.

When I asked my community members what the top reasons were why they eat beyond hunger, chronic pain came in second. That feedback motivated me to share my own journey with pain in episode 138 “Things I’m afraid to tell you” but I hadn’t share with you how I healed my low back… that’s what I’m going to tell you in today’s episode.

Steven Ozanich, author of The Great Pain Deception will share with us the work of Dr. Sarno and TMS approach to pain… particularly, low back pain.

Here’s the thing… this approach to healing pain requires no surgery, medication or expensive treatment. The solution is within you right now…

In this episode I discuss

  • What TMS is and how it could possibly change the way you interact with chronic pain
  • Why TMS is not public as a method of treatment
  • The surprising reason why pain could be a gift to you
  • What you can do if you have chronic pain today
  • What the most destructive force in our lives

Last episode, I answered a question submitted by a community member, Kacie, about food anxiety by looking at how we create food anxiety and what we could do instead to still care foour health via our nutrition but not stress about it! If you haven’t checked it out, go ahead and click here.

Avoiding Food Anxiety – How to Get to Worry-Free Eating

“I just want to be able to eat a damn piece of cake of my B-day without feeling like I’m going to die!”

How to get over a lot of the food fear we have developed over the years of dieting or partaking in nutrition education or food philosophy diet?

What about fructose and fruit… should I feel like I’m killing myself by eating an orange?

Or what about eating a croissant with white flour… why do I feel so terrible about myself for wanting one?

Today, we answer Kacie’s question about food anxiety by looking at how we create the food anxiety and what we could do instead to still care for our health via our nutrition but not stress about it!

In this episode, I discuss

  • What is food anxiety and how do we solve it?
  • The root cause of food anxiety
  • What role does perfectionism play in your life?
  • What is the 80-20 rule and where can you apply it?
  • The different ways to look beyond food anxiety

Things I’m Afraid to Tell You

There are some things I’m afraid to tell you… things I know I have to share with you but have been afraid to do so. Afraid of your rejection… being afraid of losing you.

This is my left brain fighting my right brain. I know sharing will be nothing but positive and will make us closer. You, the listener, the reader, the follower… but at the same time, my left brain is telling me: Are you crazy?… You can’t tell them that! What are they going to think of you!… NO!

So, I have been having this internal battle for some time now and I took a leap a few weeks ago in show 135 and share with you my body image challenges and publicly shared a picture of me in a bathing suit… and I survived. Actually, I thrived. Your support, feedback, comments were awesome. Not one negative word… I love you guys!

So, today’s episode is a continuity of this… fueled by you and your reaction to my sharing my body image challenges. The impact that me sharing my truth had on some of you… the #bodyneutrality movement we have created. The empowerment of you showing in putting your first bathing suit on for 30 years, or you that went to your family party, which you refuse to go at first, and then decided to go and had a wonderful time with your family or you who for the first time wore a tank top in Texas summer instead of a cardigan… and there are dozens and dozens more stories that came out of me sharing my body images challenges.

So, this ‘things I’m afraid to tell you’ episode is for you, for me for us to have a deeper more meaningful relationship. So that I continue my own healing journey and that you do yours.

I know that rejection is a possibility and that’s ok!

In this episode I discuss

  • The things I’m afraid to tell you and why it scares me to share these with you
  • Why taking time for self-care is not easy for me even if I know how important it is
  • The impact of being raised in scarcity has had on me which may resonate with you, too
  • How I view the things that challenge me and how you should view your personal challenges, too

Finding Time for Self-Care Problem

One of the most common objections I face with new clients and patients is “I just don’t have the time to xxxx”. Fill in the xxx with any activity that is exclusively focused on you or your well-being.

You feel like you don’t have the time to get IT all done let alone self-care… seems so far-fetched. How to find time for self-care, movement, and relationship and improve yourself.

Here’s the thing… if you, just like me years ago, you think you don’t have the time to care for yourself and health, think again because it’s not a question of having the time; it’s a question of making it.

This one single realization could be the key to finding the time to care for yourself and maybe, just maybe have the time for self-improvement.

In this episode I discuss

  • The 4 important concepts to help you reframe your relationship to time so that you can self-care
  • Why shouldn’t you be really proud of having the “busy badge” – Is this you?
  • The real reason why you’re not making time for self-care
  • Where you should really put your self-worth and value to know where you should spend your time
  • How perfectionism affects your decisions and life overall
  • How you should really view time to achieve your goals and change your life

If you think that being perfect is still the best strategy in your attempt to reach your goal, you need to listen to this audio. If you have been trying to be perfect and are tired of striving for perfection… You too need to listen to this audio.

For years, I‘ve attempted to be perfect in all parts of my life… work, relationship and weight. Did it work? Well in part: Work: yesHomeyes Relationship: no;  Weight: no

And then one day, I realized via a lot of selfdevelopment work that I was perfect as I was right then and there… now. It was a journey to unlearn the thinking pattern but it worked

That’s what I’ll share with you today: Why being perfect shouldn’t be your goal and what to aim for instead. And lastly, the 3step process to overcome the need to be perfect!

In this episode I discuss

  • Who must give you permission to be imperfect?
  • What to do when you feel fear of being found out?
  • Where the feeling of fear of being imperfect come from and how they impact our relationship to food and life
  • The 3-Step Process to Body Neutrality – the bridge between shaming and positivity
    1. Self-Acceptance
    2. Cease Comparison – Stop comparing yourself to others.
    3. Being Brave – Burry the picture of the perfect _____ (insert your word) and uncover yourself!

Last episode, I talked about the photo of myself in a bathing suit that I posted on Instagram last week and wrote a short post on my thoughts… Never expecting what happens next. This opened up a whole new discussion on body image.

And in this episode, I talked about Body Neutrality.  It is a liberating new concept in which you accept your body for what it is without judgment and hoping for better. Not good, aka body positivity; NOT bad, body shaming. In the middle. Neutral. Grateful for what your body does for you without wanting to brag about it. Curious how it can actually help you? Body Neutrality: A Safe Bridge Between Shame and Positivity

I posted this photo of myself in a bathing suit on Instagram last week and wrote a short post on my thoughts… Never anticipating what would happen next. The outpour of other woman who commented about how they feel about their bodies and the conversation around body acceptance was a combination of sad, challenging, and mostly inspiring for us to see how we can support each other to reach a point of body neutrality.

Body Neutrality is a concept we teach in the Going Beyond the Food Academy. It’s a liberating new concept in which you accept your body for what it is without judgment and hoping for better. It’s neither about feeling good about your body (aka body positivity) or feeling NOT bad about your body (aka body shaming). It’s in the middle – Neutral. It is about being grateful for what your body does for you without wanting to brag about it.

For most women, body shaming is all we know because it’s something we have learned from our own mothers or families and what we are being told by social media. That’s all I knew. I used to swim with a big t-shirt and shorts on because I accepted that my body was ugly and I needed to hide it.

Body neutrality is wearing the bathing suit in which you feel comfortable to go swimming and having fun. It is about living your life without feeling shame for your body. It’s acceptance without judgment.

Today, we are going to break down this concept and how you can start being neutral with your body so that you can live your life like everyone else!

In this episode I discuss

  • What is Body Neutrality?
  • How can Body Neutrality can change your outlook on your body, overeating and food cravings?
  • What is body shaming really doing to you and your eating behavior?
  • How can healing your relationship to your body impact that of your children?
  • How does body shaming bring about a cycle of self-sabotage?

Additional Resources I have for you include:

  1. Begin your journey in self-awareness and understanding what stands between you and your success in our “So… you want to lose weight?” Masterclass. This 2-hour Masterclass will clearly outline why you self-sabotage.

2. Subscribe to The Beyond the Food Show podcast to get a free weekly audio episode where you will feel empowered to take control on your life and live confidently through learning to trust and respect your innate body wisdom.

3. If you haven’t done so yet…be sure to join the Beyond The Food Community and stay connected with our Community of women just like you! I will also send you complimentary monthly coaching emails and any program offers coming up.

Last episode, I answered a question from Instagram, “Why do I continue to do things when I know they’re going to cause me grief?” In this episode, I talked about the powerful role your subconscious mind plays in all your food decisions, how important is self-love in decision-making towards doing things that can cause you grief and why your “Why” is so important. You don’t wanna miss this. This might just change your life! Click here.

Why do I continue to do things when I know they’re going to cause me grief?  I’ve asked myself this question for years and thought something was deeply wrong with me. I wasn’t able to stop eating chips… It’s like my mind was possessed by someone else. I would do it knowingly I was to regret it after and wished I didn’t do it. Why is that?

I found the answer to my question and I felt so relieved that it wasn’t actually something wrong with me but instead it was because of my subconscious mind and that I could fix it!

That’s the same question Rain sent me… Ready? Let’s dive into why we do things we know will not help us achieve our goals and what we can do about it.

In this episode I discuss

  • The powerful role your subconscious mind plays in all your food decisions
  • How your current situation is serving you in some way – Is it the ‘more’ beneficial way?
  • How important is self-love in decision-making towards doing things that can cause you grief?
  • Why your “Why” is so important

Night time eating is real. You aren’t alone! Night time cravings are something that most of us had experienced if not experiencing right now! Night time eating is such a problem these days that it’s actually been made into a disease: The Night Eating Syndrome (NES).  Crazy, right?!

How do we stop it, prevent it and cope with night time eating desire (aka cravings)

With anything we need to “heal”, I apply the same formula… Find the root cause(s) (the reason why IT is occurring) and find a solution to address the cause(s) in this case of night time eating.

If you are looking for x tips to suppress your nighttime cravings… this is not what this is going to be about.  We are going to understand what causes night time eating and then help you “heal” that so that nighttime eating is not an “issue” anymore.

Ready?

In this episode I discuss

  • Why night time eating is classified as a disease
  • How resisting your physical hunger will only worsen your night time eating
  • The importance of respecting and listening to your hunger
  • The relationship between your emotions and night time eating
  • Why having a nightly wind-down routine can help lessen the desire to eat
  • The more effective way of balancing and regulating your hormones

How many times have you tried making a promise to yourself to change an old behavior in some way, and then didn’t follow through?

From the bottom of your heart, you want to make a change. You are really tired of X and enough is enough. You make the decision to change X negative habit and start doing X instead.

In our world it maybe about stopping overeating… or eating at night. You want it so bad but after a couple days it gets harder and harder… And then, you don’t follow thru.

Are you aware that not doing what you say you want to do is generally due to what I call Self-Sabotage?

In this episode I discuss

The 5 Steps on How to Follow Through and Make You Stick with It

  • Understand that it’s normal to not follow through at first. It’s self-sabotage!
  • Accept and be Compassionate – to not fall in the downward spiral of shame and guilt
  • Understand the Intention behind what you’re trying to change that needs follow through. Is it from a place of lack or abundance?
  • Recognizing yourself when you actually do it – Do you positively reinforce yourself?
  • Prioritize Yourself. Make time for yourself in the spirit of change for your own self-improvement and development

Last episode, I answered Emma’s question, “I can’t figure out why I overeat and it’s so frustrating.” Most women have a good handle on food. More often than not, we make the best choices possible in selecting food and determining how much we should eat. Yet, we still overeat despite knowing the reason why we do it. But, is the reason that we are thinking the real cause of our overeating? You are probably thinking, “If it’s not the real reason, then how do I figure out why I overeat?”

In this coaching episode, you will learn how to find the root cause of overeating. This is very important because only you can know what they truly are. In fact, the answer is easy and it’s inside of you. There are tools to help you find this answer…

I highly encourage you to listen to this insightful episode and be empowered. You have the key! Click here.
